Zain al-Din minaret was built by Khwaja Zain al-Din, the brother of Khwaja Emad al-Din Mahmoud (developer of Mir Emad Mosque and the buildings of Maidan Seng) during the reign of Jahan Shah Qaraqvinlui in the second half of the Hijri century.A monastery was built next to this minaret, but today nothing remains of it and a mosque has been built in its place.Currently, this minaret is located with half of its original height on Mullah Habibullah Sharif Street (Isfahan Gate).Around 1305, by the order of the then mayor of Kashan and by paying a sum of one thousand tomans to a master architect named Haj Hossein Ali, about 24 meters of the height of this minaret was destroyed. However, the original architect of the minaret had deliberately made it curved. In some parts of the outer body of the minaret, using turquoise tiles, a belt-like strip was made around the minaret, which was in place until the spring of 2011.At this time, thieves stole these turquoise tiles using the scaffolding that was installed to restore the minaret.
With a height of 47 meters, the Zain al-Din Minaret is one of the tallest minarets in Kashan, so that it is not hidden from the eyes of any traveler who approaches the city from afar.
This minaret dates back to the seventh millennium BC, which was registered as one of Iran’s national monuments on January 15, 1932 with registration number 118.
